We were able to find two mandolins for Clark and Kelli. Clark found his on Craigslist last week. So Sunday afternoon, he, Ben, and Camden headed down to Tacoma to check it out. A few hours later they came home with not only a new mandolin, but also a guitar and two instrument stands. Both the mandolin and the guitar have pickups. So now, we have more instruments than band members, and we are louder too. Hmmmm, this progression seems like it could get costly to us and annoying to our neighbors if it continues.
We found Kelli's mandolin on Ebay. Hopefully, it will be here in the next couple of days. She is starting lessons with Pete Martin on Monday. She is very excited. Pete is a great teacher and taught Clark for quite awhile. He also did some guitar with Cam for awhile too. And now, a third Hess student, Kelli.
Kelli was interested in playing banjo before, but the banjo was pretty big and heavy for her. Plus, the banjo was hard for her. Big brother, Clayton, made it look so easy! She tried the mandolin and liked the smaller size. So, we will see how it goes for her. I still think she has the personality of a banjo player, but, with whatever instrument she chooses, we are excited get her up and playing, and to have her join us.
Well, Katie just woke up from her nap. Time for me to go. We are playing at the Northshore Baptist Talk-Time Hoedown tomorrow night (Friday, Oct.9). Here's the link http://www.nsb.org/calendar. We had a very fun time at this event last year. Talk Time is a ministry to internationals who are trying to learn English. We will perform and then after that, there is a square dance. We are looking forward to sharing an American experience with our foreign neighbors!
