We have a new singer in the family, and I am not talking about a sewing machine! Caleb has found his voice! He sang his first lead during the Live ARTS Bothell performance. The song is called "Corn Dogs," and it is from one of our many favorite bands, Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band.
Caleb first heard this song last summer when Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band came to Woodinville for the Woodinville Summer Concert in the Park series. We were so excited to see them in concert right here in Woodinville!
We became Ryan Shupe fans a year or so ago, after a fellow banjo enthusiast sent us Shupe's "Banjo Boy." We couldn't figure out why someone would send us this sort of country rap song called "Banjo Boy," but when we listened to the words, we just died laughing. It is a great song and pretty clever with its "Cripple Creek" backdrop. Click on the underlined title above and you can catch the YouTube video. Just think of Clayton as you listen...you will see why we laughed. If you have time, check out their website--it has a lot of fun stuff on it too.
Anyway, Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band's concert was one of the best concerts I have seen. Not only are they great musicians, but they are also hilariously clever. Do yourself a favor and catch one of their concerts...you will enjoy it! They are coming to the Tractor Tavern here in Seattle on July 16th. My boys are bummed because they are not old enough to get into the Tavern. And, don't you think I should be concerned about my boys wanting to get into a tavern? No, really, the Tractor Tavern is all about music. Check out their website and see what I mean...it is www.tractortavern.com. So, perhaps Ben and I will have to go. Age has its privileges sometimes.
Anyway, back to Caleb.... So, we needed another singing song, and Caleb wanted to sing. But there were older brothers to contend with, who were wanting to add a murder ballad to the set. Before any of them had a chance, Caleb memorized this song and "auditioned" for it on the way to Moses Lake a few weeks ago. His passion for corn dogs was evident in his voice, and he won the privilege of singing it. Yes, his brothers could not "ketchup" to him as he "mustard" his strength to sing every last line. "Hot dog"--he won! (Stop groaning...I am done.) So, here he is, the little show stealer....Caleb!
P.S. Caleb won this round of auditions, but as soon as Katie learns to say her S's, he is going to have 'ome 'tiff competition...becau'e 'he love' the 'ong too!

Good comments Sally. I really enjoyed hearing Caleb in Bothell. Will he sing with you all on Bainbridge Island?
